Last night I decided, "Man, fuck birds.", and used the cheat to skip to the stage 3 boss. That boss: no problem! What came after: problem! All that stuff, flying around. Like birds! Bleh. |

I used online maps and the codes for 99 lives and 9999 bolts in Haggle Man 3. I feel no shame.

Oh, I used the cheats! But the birds! Maps would help. I should do that. there would still be birds, but at least I wouldn't get lost. In my last attempt through level 3 before cheating I found a damage reduction gear. I think that would get me through the last fight.

I only used one cheat, skip to the last boss, for Haggleman 3. I reached him once and nearly reached him afterwards, dying at both times. There are entirely too many damn birds in that game, it makes Ninja Gaiden look merciful in comparison. Anyways, the game left me with a short enough fuse that I went ahead and used the 'skip to the credits' cheat for Guadia Quest. I intend to beat it properly, but I didn't have the patience to get through that and possibly be hit with even more frustration.
I really liked this collection, but more for the experience than the games themselves. Haggle Man 3 would have been the shining jewel of the collection easily had it not gotten so damn frustrating, as is Guadia Quest probably will be unless the end game gets frustrating. |

I mean, that certainly makes it an authentic experience and all, but the other games in the collection did more to ease the pain of sadistic 8-bit games than they did to celebrate it. |

I used the boss-warp cheat in HM3 when I was doing it for the challenges. I actually like the bosses; they're basically the same, and not very challenging, but each one uses their regalia in an interesting way.

It's so strange to me to be using cheat codes and maps again... even when I resort to an FAQ for a modern game it's not the same sort of feeling I get from a 99 life code. I kept hoping they would use the Contra Code at some point, but then I thought, god, could that be copyrighted?
But yeah, I feel no shame in using codes, especially in games that are so good at replicating the cheap deaths of the 80s. Also wish there was a true platformer. It would fill my heart with so much joy to have a Super Mario Bros. (1, 2 or 3, but a series would be best) clone in this collection. Maybe the sequel? |

Finding gears in HM3 helps alleviate a lot of cheapness. The Long M-Gear makes birds easy to deal with, for instance.

I know the next game isn't even out yet, but has anyone heard anything on it? Does it move on to the SNES era?
Also, I'm pretty bummed that Arino stopped saying new things in the chat option now that I hit the final challenge. I liked hearing what he had to say about stuff. |

You can see videos and screenshots of all the games that have been revealed here.
In addition to the "Game Computer," you now have the Floppy Drive System (Famicom Disk System), the ENTER-M2000 (the Sharp MZ-2000, I guess), Game Computer Mini (Game Boy), Game Computer MiniColor (GBC), and MASA-X (MSX). Basically, a lot more systems, but still nothing beyond 8-bit, since that would require more man-hours to reproduce convincingly (and diminish the pixelly charm, besides). |

RALLY
KING SUUUUUCCCKKKKKKKKKSSSSSS It's dragging the rest of the game down with it, and making me seriously wonder how much I could get in trade-in credit for it. How do you even fucking play the game?!?!?! I HATE IT SO MUCH |

Enh, I thought GQ was more of a drag than Rally King (Rally King SP was just stupid, though). Then again I don't really like Dragon Quest sooo.. basically everyone will really like some game in the collection, and hate some other game(s). ;P

The beauty of this is how they not only put in cheat codes like you'd get back then, but that MOST of the time the game doesn't even care that you use them. That way most any game that really pisses you off can be easily trounced, the closest to a problematic one that I've seen is Guadia Quest.

for anyone who really digs Haggle Man 3, I'd take a look at Legend of Kage 2 if you haven't already.

That depends on the flying birds knocking you into pits action.

That is in fact the very next game I plan to play after I finish RGC. And it's got such a strong pedigree, too!

Playing this game led me to watch a couple of episodes of Game Center CX. Now my heart is filled with the pain of yearnings and needs I didn't even know existed.

Probably at Crunchyroll! Some are subbed, some are raw, all are entertaining.

The amount of rage I am feeling right now towards the last level and last boss of Haggleman 2 cannot be overstated. This game was supposed to invoke pleasant retro memories without invoking such difficulty "but I can't quit or I lose all my progress" rage as the last hour has filled me with. It gives me the option to beat Star Prince without touching my DS if I want, but it doesn't give me any cheats to help me deal with that besides being able to try again over and over? Grr...
Oh well, just Haggleman 3 left... |

The last boss of Haggle Man 2 isn't too hard if you're patient. When he does that pose where he fires missiles into the air that rain down on you, immediately cease attacking and drop down to hide in one of the doors until he's done. He'll probably do it twice in a row so just chill behind the door for a minute. Then run back up and bop him to knock Chingensai out, and drop through the floor to hit him. Repeat. Repeat again. Win!

Nah, it doesn't work like that, at least not at my skill level. After you hit him twice, and he fires four upward homing blasts, there's not enough time to run back up there after he's done firing and you've hid from all of them behind a door. The trick was realizing that the upwards blasts can be destroyed with ninja stars, but there was really no indication of that, and I only tried it because I was completely desperate to finish the damn thing and was trying every stupid plan I could think of at that point.

They're a fansub group working on it currently. They've done the game challenge segments of the entire first season, and are currently working through subtitling the full episodes of the 2nd season. They've done 4 episodes so far, and are on hiatus until June when they'll apparently start releasing them at a regular schedule. |

Cheats are love. Rally King SP final challenge? Skip to stage, no enemy cars, win.
I need more time to play Guadia Quest. I dunno if I'll make it before the Fun Club runs out. Meanwhile, oh man, the GCCX 2 page! (I guess maybe I should spoiler this?) Fantasy-themed Pacman? The obvious but awesome-looking Guadia sequel on GBA? Mother-effin' Karateka?? A Gargoyle's Quest / Mario -looking hybrid??! Yes please. |
