Default FC 45: Retro Game Challenge - Guadia Quest

A part of the game so long that it gets its own thread!

Please discuss Guadia Quest here. And marvel at how something this meaty is part of a mock retro game collection.

I'll be gone most of tomorrow give me a break. Besides, I know at least a couple of people were still playing the import somewhat.

It's here when people get here.

I'm kind of disturbed that Parish's front page post made me so excited about this specifically, but then again, I was just yesterday working on writing a thing about why there's barely anything about Phantasy Star II that can be meaningfully improved without actually making the game worse. So I'm just a little hungry for a good, old RPG, and this sounds even better.

(Also, Phantasy Star II totally did have the Visiphone)

Strangely enough, I'm particularly excited about Guadia Quest too, even though I just played Dragon Warrior II and was kind of fed up with it by the end. Then again, Guadie Quest merely looks old and hopefully will be free of the tedious grinding and horrible dungeons on DW II.

I just started this! The fact that the game has a town called Timbucktoo is some kind of awesome.

I haven't gotten to it yet, but I like how the interview for Guadia Quest in the April 86 issue has Marvin P. Android for the monster designer.

Man, the final dungeon is killing me. It's huge and confusing.

Hey I got my first Guadia! Gaia Guadia! Can't wait to see if it is worth it.

So I did an all out assault on a wind guadia while I was only level 7 and somehow managed to get him before he struck a killing blow to finish my mage off. Thus far he sits around alot, but when he attacks it hurts something fierce.

This seems to be the typical Guadia behavior. I traded my Gaia Guadia for a Fire Guadia and it seems to both hit harder and attack more often. I'm quite happy with it for the time being.

Also, while exploring, I found something amazing that I have no hope of getting yet: You can get talking head Arino as a Guadia!

I'm at the end of the game and I still can't get it. Even if I use the items that reduce all of a Guadia's stats by 30-50 points, it still kills any member of my party in a single hit.

Every RPG should have a Fasta spell.
